Princeton SWE’s 2022 Roundup!

Happy 2023 to our SWE family! This year was one of the busiest in recent years with nearly all of our events being together on campus (rather than Zoom)! It was so lovely to see everyone’s faces in-person again, so we wanted to round up the year with a few highlights:

Spring 2022 Alumni Brunch: In the spring of 2022, our outstanding alumni from the Princeton/New York area joined us for brunch catered by Jammin’ Crepes in the E-Quad Cafe. Current students were able to hear from alumni in a variety of fields and bond over their shared experiences, and alumni had the opportunity to reconnect with old friends and classmates. Thank you to all alumni who attended – we really appreciate it & can’t wait to have you back soon!

Career Events: Organized by our outstanding Career Development Co-chairs Erin Petrino and Aaliyah Sayed, SWE members got to hear from current engineers and representatives from a wide range of companies including Accenture, Virtu, NASA JPL, Partiful, Evergreen Statistical Trading, and MongoDB. At these events, SWE members were able to review their resumes, sharpen their technical interview skills, and talk to current employees about their experiences in industry. Thank you so much to all the companies that worked with us this semester!

Membership Events: Membership co-chairs Emily Wang and Mirabelle Weinbach put together some awesome events this year to bring together the SWE community! Get-to-know-you Bingo cards (with squares including meeting someone who is trilingual or can do a cartwheel) were a big hit at our kickoff event. We held a joint ice cream social with NSBE and SHPE, as well as our annual “Big/Little” study break pairing underclassmen and upperclassmen to foster connection between class years.

WE22 Conference: Six Princeton SWE members traveled to Houston, Texas to attend WE22, the world’s largest conference for women in engineering held by global SWE. In Houston, they heard from inspirational speakers, attended the (massive!) Career Fair, and explored a new city. Keep an eye out for opportunities to attend WE23 in Anaheim, CA next fall!

HSEC and Girl Scouts: For the first time in two years, SWE welcomed local high school students and Girl Scout troops to the Friend Center on Princeton’s campus for our semesterly High School Engineering Colloquium and Girl Scout Day. Our volunteers had so much fun planning and working these events, and we hope that the students who attended had an amazing experience learning from Princeton professors, talking to current students, and doing hands-on activities!

GradSWE: We are so excited to announce the addition of GradSWE as a part of Princeton’s SWE section! Through the stellar efforts of Allison Chen and Prachi Sinha, we hope to continue to grow SWE amongst Princeton graduate students & provide opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to connect.

Thank you so much for such an exciting Fall 2022 SWEmester! We look forward to welcoming a new board this month and seeing all that SWE does in 2023 💜
