On October 24th to the 26th, members of the Princeton University Society of Women Engineers (SWE) chapter had the incredible opportunity to attend WE24: Together We Rise, the annual SWE conference that brings together aspiring engineers, established professionals, and leaders from a variety of fields. Held over three packed days, the event was an empowering mix of workshops, talks, and networking opportunities, offering a rare chance to connect with a national network of talented women in STEM.
One of the most exciting elements of WE24 is the world’s largest career fair for women in engineering and technology, featuring over 450 organizations across multiple fields. Princeton SWE members had the chance to explore career options, internships, and opportunities for professional development with leading companies, from tech giants to engineering innovators, with many establishing valuable contacts for future opportunities.
Another highlight of WE24 was the lineup of keynote speakers, featuring three extraordinary leaders in engineering and technology: Sharon Hong (Vice President, Ecosystem Solutions and Video Sales Engineering, Motorola Solutions), Catherine Hunt Ryan (President, Bechtel Manufacturing & Technology), and Shelley Knust (Vice President – Product Compliance and Regulatory Affairs (PCRA) Cummins Inc.). Each keynote speaker brought unique perspectives on resilience, innovation, and leadership, leaving attendees feeling empowered and ready to tackle new challenges. Sharon Hong’s talk resonated particularly with those looking to break into leadership roles in technology, while Catherine Hunt Ryan and Shelley Knust shared valuable insights on the future of engineering and the evolving role of women in the field. Princeton SWE members were inspired by their stories of overcoming barriers, pushing for excellence, and transforming the industry.
In addition, WE24 hosted over 200 workshops led by experts, content creators, and innovators. Attendees could explore emerging industry trends, hear insights from industry leaders, and dive into compelling data and best practices. Sessions covered a wide variety of topics from agile leadership to green engineering to diversity-driven innovation and more. The diversity of topics ensured that there was something for everyone, whether just starting in engineering or ready to advance to the next career stage.
WE24 also provided a platform for celebrating trailblazers and innovators in the field. The Apex Award recipients, who have made remarkable contributions to engineering, inspired attendees by sharing their journeys and the impact of their work. Princeton SWE members joined in celebrating the success and excellence of these awardees, motivated to contribute to this legacy of accomplishment.
With the theme Together We Rise, WE24 was a reminder of the power of a united community, as Princeton SWE members returned to campus inspired and equipped to lead in engineering. With new skills, connections, and a shared commitment to breaking barriers in STEM, Princeton’s SWE chapter embodies the resilience and strength that will propel the future of engineering forward.
